I posted about Permanent Knock, the new album from Kayer back in May and at the time I hadn't sat down and listened to the album, I'd only checked the tracks on Bandcamp. Since then I've received my tape order and spent some time listening to the album and I've got to say, as much as I enjoyed his earlier music this new album is really good.
I've been thinking about this for the last few days and I can't seem to pinpoint any one thing that makes this album stand out and I've come to the conclusion that it's the sum of all its parts that does it. Coming in at just over 34 mins the album is just the right length with no filler or lackluster tracks. There's some heavyweight guest verses from Myka 9, 2 Mex, Maleko, and Spoon of Iodine as well as guest cuts from Deeskee, Dj Vinroc, Dj Fossil, and one of my personal favorites Dj Icewater.
If you told me this album was made in the early 2000's during the heyday of the new wave of the bay area underground scene I would likely believe you and I'd be calling up Shane at Below The Surface or P-Minus at Atak to order a copy. In 2017 you unfortunately don't have the option of phoning Shane or P-Minus to order music but you can check out Kayer's bandcamp and order a digital or physical copy directly from him...and I suggest that you do. Please support good people making good music.
